Brooksville Main Street's free Downtown Street Market, Oktoberfest Edition, runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, with the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off. Visitors can sample chili and vote for a winner.

Downtown Brooksville's monthly street market takes an Oktoberfest theme Saturday, Oct. 17, and adds the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off. Brooksville Main Street's event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on South Brooksville Avenue, and admission is free.
The event listing places the market along the 100 block of South Brooksville Avenue, giving both 101 and 110 S. Brooksville Ave. as its location.
Taste and vote
Local restaurant chefs, artisans and home cooks are competing for the title of Best Chili in Brooksville. People at the market can sample the entries and cast a ballot to help pick the winner.
Cooks who want to enter are directed to an online registration form linked from the event listing. Organizers say space for competitors is strictly limited.
What else to expect
The event listing promises seasonal decor, handmade crafts and specialty food vendors along the street. Organizers describe it as family- and pet-friendly, so pets are welcome.
Organizers note that downtown parking is free and encourage visitors to walk past the market to the independent shops and restaurants downtown. More information is posted at welovebvl.org.
Next market date
A City of Brooksville notice lists the Downtown Street Market as a monthly event, with the next one after Saturday set for Nov. 21. The same notice advises that two or more City Council members may attend.
