Water Quality Advisory Lifted at Roger's Park in Spring Hill

Roger's Park in Spring Hill is open for swimming again. The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County lifted its water quality advisory for the park on September 21, 2026, after weeks of testing showed bacteria levels had dropped back within state limits.

The advisory had been in place since September 9, when DOH-Hernando warned residents to stay out of the water at the park, located at 7244 Shoal Line Blvd. Testing done on September 1 found fecal coliform bacteria above the recreational water quality standards set by the state, prompting the health department to flag an increased risk of illness for anyone swimming there.

Roger's Park sits along the Weeki Wachee River and is one of the busiest waterfront spots in Spring Hill, drawn to families for swimming, kayaking and picnicking. A closure of any length there is the kind of thing that ripples through weekend plans across the area.

County and health officials monitored bacteria levels through the following weeks. Once sampling confirmed fecal coliform had fallen back within accepted health limits, DOH-Hernando cleared the advisory, and swimming and other water-related activities can resume at the park.

DOH-Hernando has not said what caused the elevated bacteria levels found on September 1. The agency says it will continue routine testing at Roger's Park and other public swimming sites around the county, and it will issue a new advisory if levels rise again.
